"Old News"

Consumer Reports magazine held a coffee showdown between, Dunkin’ Donuts, Starbucks, McDonald’s, and Burger King and Ronald the clown came out on top! Which is consistent with my taste buds. McDonald’s has the best of the worst coffees hooray!
Last winter McDonald’s marketing brought out a “premium roast” and you can taste the stringent Uganda, or is it Vietnamese beans? What I’m talking about is robusta coffee. The highest in Caffeine content and lowest in quality and environmental awareness when it comes to trade and environmental consciousness. It does have a nice nasty fruity tinge and the cheap quick pick me up without having to learn the corporate speak of Starbo’s. I’m an expert at crappy coffee. To me it takes knowing really bad coffee in order to know good, great, better, best. Like the palm reader I knew in New Orleans during a 1990’s Jazz Fest. Don’t recall his name but his mentor told him “Go out and read 10,000 palms and then come back and I’ll teach you how it’s done.” It is same way with coffee; “Go out and drink 10,000 cups and come back and learn how to roast.”
Consumer Report went on to say coffee at the BK Lounge (Burger King) tasted like hot water. Agreed! They have this new brown really plain and basic look that actually had me scared when it came out right around the time the McDonalds came out with their new roast because I actually thought it was going to be good based on the new brown look, but it was nasty! And that got me mad! The Dunker got an “Inoffensive” which I feel was right on. They held a short and very popular period when their Ice coffee was all the rage all because of their sweetened milk they add to their brew and I completely agree with the Inoffensive warm boring taste. Starbucks was rated as “strong but burnt and bitter enough to make your eyes water not open.”
Good coffee is a tough call when you consider brewing it for the masses. I’m still dreaming of the day I open the Roos Roast Coffee Shop because I’m up for the challenge to simply make the best coffee for everyone. Shhhh. It’s a secret.
