Costa Rica’s Tarrazú region is a coffee lover’s dream—soaring mountains on one side, the Pacific on the other, and fields of Arabica plants soaking up the perfect mix of altitude, cool nights, and rich soil. Even the Pirrís River lends a hand, keeping everything fresh and flourishing.
Back in 1960, local farmers joined forces to create CoopeTarrazú, a cooperative that changed everything. Before that, growers had to rely on middlemen and had little access to proper mills or training. Now, over 5,000 members bring their cherries to a shared wet mill, boosting both quality and community spirit.
Thanks to smart farming practices and eco-friendly initiatives—like recycling programs and renewable energy—Tarrazú’s coffees are now world-famous. Their dense, slow-ripened beans are classified as Strictly Hard Bean, and they’ve snagged plenty of global awards. Not bad for a tiny region with some seriously mighty flavor!
